The complete list will be made available to all of the undersigned. A petition. WE, the undersigned, citizens or residents of the Commonwealth of Australia, strongly object to the callous treatment of the Norwegian vessel, the M.V. Tampa, her crew and her the contingent of 460 possible refugees she rescued. WE do not believe that allowing this vessel a safe haven in our waters constitutes a threat to our national sovereignty nor do we believe that credible deterrance to future illegal immigration will be established by refusing her to land and processing the asylum seekers according to our obligations under the UN Convention on Refugees. WE furthermore object to the recklessness shown by the Howard Government and the Opposition alike, who, contrary to international conventions disregard the M.V. Tampa's calls of distress. WE believe that the people of Australia can only be harmed by our association with such cruel practices. Signed.
